PEI Premier Rob Lantz announced that he is stepping down from his position leading the province in order to enter the race for permanent leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party.
Lantz’s Dec. 11 announcement came the day after the the provincial PC Party said that its upcoming leadership convention will be held on Feb. 7 of next year. The P.E.I. PC Party constitution requires Lantz to step down as the party’s interim leader a maximum of 10 days after the date of the leadership convention is set.
“This province has given me every opportunity I’ve ever had. That’s why I care so much about its future,” Lantz said in Charlottetown Dec. 11, according to reporting from CBC News. “It’s been the honour of my life to serve Islanders as premier.”…
