Iranian officials have confirmed that a second flight carrying more than 50 Iranians deported from the United States has departed, Iran’s judiciary-affiliated Mizan news agency reported on Dec. 7.
Mizan quoted Mojtaba Shasti Karimi, a senior Foreign Ministry official, as saying on Dec. 7 that 55 nationals had been transferred from the United States after they expressed their desire to return to Iran and completed the necessary legal and administrative steps.
Karimi said the group followed an earlier cohort returned in September and October, and reiterated longstanding Iranian allegations that its citizens had faced mistreatment while in U.S. custody or transit.
