Toronto police have identified the victim in a shooting near the University of Toronto Scarborough campus.
Shivank Avasthi, 20, is the city’s 41st homicide victim of the year, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) said.
TPS said officers responded to a call for unknown trouble in the Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road area on Dec. 23, around 3:34 p.m. They located a man with a gunshot would, and the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. TPS said the suspect fled the scene before they arrived.
Police have not released a suspect description or drawing.
The university closed nearby paths to allow TPS to investigate. The school also advised anyone on campus to “stay where you are,” telling anyone who was outdoors near the location to “leave the area immediately or seek safe shelter.”…
