In 2013, Michael Odell, along with brothers Max and Paul Ekwall, founded Ocean Bus with an ambitious goal: to introduce Scandinavia’s first amphibious bus. Following numerous meetings with authorities, inspection bodies, and stakeholders, their vision came to fruition. In August 2014, Ocean Bus made its maiden voyage on Royal Djurgården in Stockholm.
The amphibious bus, christened after Princess Estelle of Sweden, adheres to stringent security standards for both buses and passenger ships. It has undergone rigorous testing and has been approved by Swedish inspection bodies and the transport agency. Equipped with all necessary safety gear, the bus is operated by specially trained personnel to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
Passengers on Ocean Bus can expect an engaging sightseeing experience, with knowledgeable guides sharing fascinating tales about Gothenburg’s history and culture. The tours are available in both English and Swedish, catering to a diverse audience. The day I booked my tour the crew consisted of Elsa, the tour guide, and Stephen, the driver—two exceptionally kind individuals. With her excellent sense of humor, Elsa provided detailed explanations about each theme and location we visited. To enhance the experience, she played fitting songs from various artists, movie themes, and genres corresponding to each stop on the tour.
Ocean Bus offers a unique way to explore Gothenburg, blending education and entertainment seamlessly. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, the amphibious bus tour promises a memorable journey through the city’s rich history and vibrant culture.
