EIT opens latest call to fund university entrepreneurship

EU body offers €56 million to support capacity building and academia-industry links

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology has launched a fresh call for proposals under its Higher Education Institutions Initiative, which supports innovation and entrepreneurship capacity building at universities.

Offering a total of €56 million, the EIT call is expected to provide about €1.34m each to up to 42 projects lasting 25 months.

There are two strands: one focused on innovation and entrepreneurship in general and the other on how these are applied to ‘deep tech’, which is heavily based on research.

Academia and industry collaboration

Applications must involve at least five organisations, with at least three higher education institutions in different countries and one company.

“This new call will continue to enhance collaboration between academia and industry, driving Europe’s competitiveness and ensuring we remain at the forefront of global innovation,” said Stefan Dobrev, chair of the EIT governing board.

“By equipping higher education institutions with the tools and support they need to develop the most relevant skills, we are laying the foundations for future generations of innovators and entrepreneurs.”

The call, which closes on 12 December, is the fourth under the scheme, which the EIT said has so far supported over 40,000 students and staff at more than 500 organisations.

Some members of consortia applying to the new call are allowed to have been funded in previous calls.
