San Francisco Zoo Described as ‘Unsafe’ in City Report

The Joint Zoo/Recreation and Parks Committee described the San Francisco Zoo as “unsafe for the animals and visitors” in a report presented at a meeting on Oct. 10.
The committee voted unanimously in support of recommendations for improving animal welfare and overall infrastructure at the 95-year-old zoo, which it characterized as having “extremely outdated” animal enclosures. The report recommends that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors order an audit of the facility.
According to the report, the committee agreed on April 19 to respond to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle “detailing serious concerns with San Francisco Zoo management and animal welfare issues.”…
