Justin Trudeau has announced he intends to resign as prime minister and Liberal Party leader once the party has chosen a replacement.
In the meantime, all parliamentary business will be put on hold. Trudeau met with Governor General Mary Simon on the morning of Jan. 6 to ask for her to prorogue Parliament, which she accepted. This brings an end to the current parliamentary session, with House of Commons proceedings being suspended until March 24.
The move will prevent opposition parties from voting non-confidence in the government, as they’ve all pledged they would do, which delays an election for the time being….
