American Airlines Asks Supreme Court to Overturn Ruling Blocking JetBlue Alliance

American Airlines is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court ruling that blocked a now-abandoned partnership with JetBlue Airways on federal antitrust law grounds.
The petition in American Airlines Group Inc. v. United States was docketed, or officially accepted for filing, on March 3. At least four of the nine justices must vote to grant the petition for it to move forward to the oral argument stage.
The federal government has been directed to file a response with the court by April 2.
The two airlines entered into a “Northeast Alliance” in the congested New York–Boston corridor in July 2020 to counter Delta Air Lines and United Airlines’s market dominance in the region, according to the petition….
