The federal Liberal Party has removed a candidate from an Alberta riding after a video resurfaced in which he referred to the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah as “movements for national liberation, not terrorists.”
Rod Loyola, the Liberal candidate for the Alberta riding of Edmonton Gateway, is no longer running after comments he made about Hamas and Hezbollah at a rally in Edmonton in 2009 were reported by The National Post.
In the video, published on YouTube on April 6, 2009, Loyola speaks before performing three songs with another demonstrator, saying they want to “build a counter-hegemonic culture.”
“Organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas really are trying to stand up for their people, and that needs to be recognized,” Loyola says in the video. “These are movements for national liberation, not terrorists.”…
