On April 28, after President Donald Trump again remarked that Canada should become the 51st U.S. state, Canadians voted in the federal election with one key concern—the preservation of Canadian sovereignty. Following his election victory, Prime Minister Mark Carney represented this concern with vigour and clarity. “America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country,” he said. “But these are not idle threats. President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us.
