The Conservative Party is calling on the federal government to designate the India-based Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization.
Conservative MP and public safety critic Frank Caputo wrote in an Aug. 11 letter to Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree that the organization should be listed as a terrorist group under Canadian law to provide law enforcement and government with the necessary tools to address the gang’s activities.
“The Bishnoi Gang’s activities lay the groundwork for listing it as a terrorist entity,” Caputo wrote. “As you know, they have taken credit for vast violence in Canada and abroad.”
The Bishnoi gang engages in political shootings, extortion of South Asian Canadians, and extreme violence for political, religious, and ideological reasons, as well as to intimidate other potential targets, Caputo said….
