Nebraska Announces Plans for New Detention Center; Texas GOP Poised for Vote on New Congressional Map

Nebraska will soon be home to a new federal immigration detention center, dubbed the “Cornhusker Clink.” The new facility is part of the Trump administration’s broader plan to expand deportation infrastructure nationwide. Gov. Jim Pillen announced on Tuesday that Nebraska is partnering with the Department of Homeland Security to convert a minimum-security work camp into a facility that will hold illegal immigrants awaiting deportation.
The Texas Legislature is expected to pass a new congressional map on Wednesday that would create five new winnable seats for Republicans. On Tuesday, Democratic state Rep. Nicole Collier spent a second night in the Texas Capitol building. She refused to accept a mandatory police escort meant to ensure Democratic lawmakers wouldn’t attempt to leave the state again….
