ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y.—On Aug. 16, New York state police reported two men drowned in separate incidents.
The first incident happened around 11:35 a.m., after Darwin J. Chuiza-Tagua, 22, went for a hike in the Turkey Hill Pond area of Harriman State Park with a friend. The area is just south of the West Point Military Reservation. After the hike, Chuiza-Tagua decided to go for a swim in Turkey Hill Pond to cool off.
Authorities said the man walked away from the shore, quickly submerged under the water, and did not resurface.
Troopers from State Police Monroe were on the scene by 11:47 a.m. The search for the victim was assisted by the State Police Aviation Unit and Underwater Recovery Team. The body was found 20 feet from the shore in 10 feet of water. Police believe the death to be an accident and found no signs of foul play….
