Prince Rupert Walmart Permanently Closes, Citing Safety Concerns

A Walmart serving the remote B.C. port city of Prince Rupert has announced it will permanently close after a temporary shutdown for safety reasons led to a “larger review” of the store’s operations.
“While the store was initially closed out of concern for the safety of our associates and customers, the prolonged closure led to a larger review of the store location and operations and our long-term plans,” the store said in a Sept. 29 post on Facebook. Walmart said the store is closed “effective immediately.”  
“We know how much the community valued this store, and while this is not the outcome we hoped for, this decision was only made after a full review of options,” the post said, noting that it had been a “difficult decision” to make….
