Protesters Confront ICE Agents During New York Chinatown Operation

An immigration enforcement operation targeting street vendors on Manhattan’s iconic Canal Street turned into chaos Tuesday when a crowd of angry New Yorkers surrounded federal agents in an attempt prevent their departure, leading to arrests amid tense confrontations in a busy part of downtown.
Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said at least one person was arrested for assault during the confrontation, which took place just after 4 p.m. as agents targeted sellers of counterfeit goods.
“During this law enforcement operation, rioters who were shouting obscenities, became violent and obstructed law enforcement duties including blocking vehicles and assaulting law enforcement,” she said….
