Alberta Charter School Students Outperform Public School Students on Provincial Exams: Report

A new report has found that students in Alberta charter schools are outperforming those enrolled in public and Catholic schools.
The report, published Oct. 22 by think tank SecondStreet.org, compared the test results among Alberta’s charter schools, public schools, and Catholic schools using Provincial Achievement Test scores (PATs). The tests examined in the report included the subjects of English, mathematics, science, and social studies, for Grade 6 and 9 students.
The report said that when all subjects and grades were considered, the average test score for charter school students was 9.3 percentage points higher than the average score for students in public schools, and 7.7 percentage points higher than for students in Catholic schools….
