Family caregivers, who provide care to adults or children suffering from complex medical conditions or disabilities, are being burdened with “crushing financial strain” across the United States, nonprofit AARP, which advocates for people aged 50 and older, said in an Oct. 28 statement.
“Family caregiving can result in substantial financial consequences. These can include stopping or using up savings, taking on more debt, and paying bills late or not at all. Almost half of family caregivers nationally (48 percent) experience at least one negative financial impact because of caregiving,” an AARP report reads.
