Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem rejected a request from the governor of Illinois to pause immigration enforcement operations during Halloween.
In a letter to Noem, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker requested a pause in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations around parks, places of worship, homes, schools, and other places.
The governor suggested in the letter that children and families will go “without fear” if ICE operations are paused during the Halloween weekend, saying that “no child should be forced to inhale tear gas or other chemical agents while trick or treating in their own neighborhood.”
