The U.S. Supreme Court is poised to consider the constitutionality of President Donald Trump’s firing of a Federal Trade Commission member, in a major test of presidential power that could imperil a 90-year-old legal precedent.
On Dec. 8, the nation’s highest court will hear the case of former Federal Trade Commission member Rebecca Slaughter, who was fired in March. A ruling in favor of the federal government would bolster the president’s ability to remove senior officials from some federal agencies.
