Police Officer Shot in Welland, Ont., in Standoff With Suspect

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) says residents near a Welland, Ont., home should continue to shelter in place after one of their officers was shot by a male suspect whose surrender is still being negotiated.
Police say they responded to a keep the peace call alongside bylaw officers about an issue regarding a fencing dispute at around 7:20 a.m. EST on Dec. 19, when they were subsequently fired on by a resident on nearby Second Street around 7:45 a.m.
An NRPS officer wearing body armour was struck by the gunfire and taken to hospital, with police announcing at 5:02 p.m. that the officer has been released with “minor physical injuries.”…
