The FBI in Tampa said on March 18 that a suspicious package left outside the visitor center of MacDill Air Force Base earlier this week contained “possible energetic materials.”
FBI Tampa said in a post on X that analysis of the materials was ongoing, the investigation remains active, and the bureau was not able to share further details at this time.
Energetic materials can store large amounts of chemical energy, and include fuels, propellants, and explosives, according to Sandia National Laboratories.
The FBI said in a March 16 post on X that it was investigating reports of a suspicious package at MacDill AFB alongside Tampa Police. Authorities diverted traffic and closed MacDill Avenue south of Interbay as a precaution, the agency said….
