China has overturned a death sentence for Canadian citizen Robert Lloyd Schellenberg who has been convicted of drug charges, according to a report by the New York Times.
The Supreme People’s Court of China overturned the B.C. native’s death sentence on Feb. 6, with Schellenberg’s lawyer reportedly saying that the case will be retried.
Global Affairs Canada (GAC) said they are aware of “a decision” on the case and noted that Ottawa has long supported “clemency” for Schellenberg and for all Canadians sentenced to death.
