A B.C. man who was convicted in a fatal stabbing in 2022 and granted early release in the summer of 2024 has now been charged with manslaughter in relation to a fatal stabbing in 2025, according to Vancouver police.
David Richard Morin, 32, has been charged in the Sept. 3, 2025, stabbing death of 54-year-old Michael Smadu in east Vancouver, police said in a press release.
Police offered no further information on the stabbing and said in a previous release that it is unknown if the victim and suspect knew each other.
Morin was previously convicted of aggravated assault for the January 22, 2022, unprovoked stabbing of a Mexican tourist inside a Tim Horton’s coffee shop in Downtown Vancouver. He was arrested days later by Vancouver police and received a three-year jail sentence in June 2022….
