OpenAI will not pursue an initial public offering in 2026 as the company focuses on reducing potentially catastrophic risks associated with artificial intelligence, CEO Sam Altman said in remarks published Saturday.
“I actually think that, given everything happening with safety, right now would be an ill-advised moment to go public, and we don’t feel pressure on that,” Altman told business magazine Fortune.
His comments were made amid renewed warnings about the possible consequences of rapidly advancing AI systems. Two researchers from OpenAI competitor Anthropic recently warned that AI could eventually threaten humanity, prompting lawmakers from both parties to call for more safeguards. …
