After the 2015 election, when I won the Calgary-Shaw riding for the NDP, a narrative began, suggesting that the result was largely due to a “right-wing split.” While our first-past-the-post system has its flaws in a multi-party system, something that was lost in that narrative was just how heavily people rejected the status quo.
