“The Next Station” in Kalamata: A Three-Day Festival of Art, Memory and Dialogue at the Historic Railway Station

“The Next Station” continues its journey through the Peloponnese, making its second key stop in Kalamata, transforming the Historic Railway Station and the “Armonia” Hall into a vibrant space for art, memory and public dialogue.

From May 22 to 24, 2026, the station will host a three-day program of multidisciplinary events with free admission, where art engages in dialogue with the history of the railway and the collective memory of the region.

GreekAffair mentions that the initiative is organized by the artistic platform Horizontas Gegonoton (“Event Horizon”), in co-organization with the Municipality of Kalamata, the Messinia Railway Friends Association and Aenaon KoinSEP, highlighting the importance of collaboration among local organizations for the reinterpretation and cultural revitalization of historic infrastructure.

Visual Arts Exhibition Opening – Friday, May 22

The program opens on Friday, May 22, at 19:00 with the inauguration of a visual arts exhibition featuring around 30 artists presenting works of painting, sculpture, video art and installations inspired by memory and the symbolic significance of the railway.

The evening will also include screenings, performances and workshops featuring students from the Athens School of Fine Arts.

On Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 18:00, an open discussion titled “The Next Station: Crossroads Between the Past and the Future” will take place in the “Armonia” Hall.

The discussion will focus on the role of the railway as a carrier of memory, as well as the possibilities for reactivating abandoned infrastructure.
