117 Dead Dogs Found in ‘Horrific Scene’ at ‘No-Kill’ Shelter in California, Sheriff Says

A sheriff’s office in Northern California said the remains of 117 dead dogs were found on the grounds of a “no-kill” animal shelter, with many having died of gunshot wounds.
In a statement last week, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office said the remains were found at the Miranda’s Rescue Animal Sanctuary in Fortua, located in the northwestern corner of the state.
A search warrant that was issued for the sheriff’s office included a search associated with the shelter and Shannon Miranda, the founder of the shelter, “for evidence related to animal cruelty and fraud,” the statement said. “This included the excavation of open fields for evidence of deceased dogs believed to be buried in mass graves.”…
