FBI Says It Is Still Evaluating Nancy Guthrie Ransom Notes

The FBI said on July 1 that it was still evaluating some of the ransom notes that were sent in after the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie—the mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie—but said many of them were just attempts at extortion by people who had no knowledge of her whereabouts.
The incident in February is still being investigated as a kidnapping-for-ransom case, the FBI said, and it was still assessing whether some of the notes were from those who abducted the 84-year-old.
Ransom Notes ‘Potentially’ Legitimate
“Some have been determined to be extortion attempts ⁠without legitimacy. Other ransom demands may potentially be legitimate and are still being investigated as such,” the FBI said….
