New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said that his city does not have a legal right to detain Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after earlier announcing that he was looking into the legality of making such an arrest.
“My administration has reviewed every avenue available under applicable law to determine whether New York City could execute the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant if Benjamin Netanyahu came here,” Mamdani said in a video shared through a July 21 post on X. “It is clear that we do not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant.
