A total of 55 individuals have been infected with E. coli and Salmonella across 15 states, with infections linked to consuming alfalfa sprouts, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
Of the 55, 46 were infected with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), 7 with Salmonella, and two with both pathogens, the FDA said in an Aug. 21 update. There have been four hospitalizations reported, with no deaths.
Minnesota accounted for the majority of infections with 21 cases, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
This was followed by Wisconsin with 17 cases. Florida, North Carolina, North Dakota, and New York each had two cases. Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Washington each had one. …
