Canadian Public Sector Job Growth Outstripped Private Sector by 14% in Past Decade: Study

Canada’s public sector workforce grew 14 percent faster than the private sector’s between 2015 and 2025, reflecting a decade-long trend of increased government hiring, a new study suggests.
Public sector employment grew by 29 percent over the decade, while private sector employment, which includes self-employed individuals, increased by 15 percent, according to data reported by the Fraser Institute. 
Government and public sector jobs represented 19.5 percent of total employment in Canada in 2014, rising to 21.6 percent by 2025. Meanwhile, the share of private sector employment declined from 80.5 percent to 78.4 percent over the same period.
