The Edmonton Police Service has removed a post and video from social media that encouraged citizens to report online hate after critics accused the force of overstepping its authority.
The now-deleted X post said: “Online hate isn’t ‘just a comment.’ It hurts real people and harms real communities. Hate has no home here.” It went on to say “If you see hate, report hate” and offered a dedicated link for people to do so online.
A similar version is posted to the force’s Instagram account.
