Federal Prosecutors File Over 400 Immigration-Related Cases in 2 US States

More than 400 immigration and border-related cases were filed by federal prosecutors in Texas and California over the past week.
In Texas, 292 new immigration and immigration-related criminal cases were filed between Aug. 7 and 13, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said in an Aug. 14 statement. People charged in these cases include illegal immigrants and illegal immigrant smugglers with convictions for theft, violent crimes, and prior removals from the United States.
In one case, an illegal immigrant from Mexico admitted to taking part in a smuggling event involving two minors. After the smuggling, he went back to Mexico and then tried to illegally reenter the United States to transport the children to Denver, Colorado. He was caught by officials during the reentry attempt….
