Luigi Mangione’s state murder trial set to start next month in New York City was postponed indefinitely on Aug. 17 after he pleaded guilty to two federal charges in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Judge Gregory Carro issued a brief order after lawyers for Mangione petitioned the court to throw out the case on double jeopardy grounds before the Sept. 8 trial started.
The order gives prosecutors until Oct. 9 to respond to Mangione’s motion.
The judge set the next court meeting for Dec. 10, indicating the trial will not go forward next month.
The date is about a week before he is scheduled to be sentenced in his federal case….
