Imagine you have a narrow waterway in the Middle East through which a significant percentage of the world’s oil supply runs. There’s a war going on, and an armed faction starts attacking ships along that route. These attacks disrupt supplies, and raise costs for everyone.
You may be thinking, this sounds familiar. Iran has done this with the Strait of Hormuz. But now, these kinds of attacks are also happening near Yemen.
A Yemeni group, known as the Houthis, have claimed responsibility for several recent attacks along this sea lane. And history shows they’re quite persistent.
