Pentagon Upgrades Valor Awards for 3 Marines Who Withstood Attack During Afghanistan Withdrawal

ARLINGTON, Va.—Three U.S. Marines received upgraded valor awards on Aug. 26, in recognition of their actions after a bomb blast at the security checkpoint they were manning at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Afghanistan exactly five years before.
In a ceremony in the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes on the fifth anniversary of the attack, Marine Staff Sgt. Jonathan Eby and Lance Cpl. Jordan Houston received Bronze Stars with “V” devices for valor.
Cpl. Michael Gretzon received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with a “V” device. 
Eby, Houston, and Gretzon were among those assigned to Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, during the U.S. military withdrawal and civilian evacuation of Afghanistan through August 2021. …
