The union representing WestJet’s flight attendants says its tentative deal with the Calgary-based airline includes a more than 18 percent wage hike over three years and new compensation for previously unpaid duty time.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced it had reached a tentative deal on Aug. 3, following the end of a one-day strike, which started on Aug. 2. Details of the agreement were published by the union on Aug. 5.
The new terms are being described by the union as a step forward for the roughly 4,400 members of the Calgary-based airline it represents.
“This tentative agreement represents meaningful progress. It evolves the flight credit system by recognizing more of the work cabin crew are required to perform and with general increases to compensation for that work,” CUPE President of Local 8125 Alia Hussain said in an Aug. 3 release….
