Federal Ban on Selling Handguns to Young Adults Is Unconstitutional: DOJ

A ban in federal law that bars dealers from selling handguns to adults aged 18 to 20 is unconstitutional, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Sept. 18.
The law makes it illegal for dealers to sell handguns and ammunition for handguns to people the dealers know or believe are under 21 years of age. It also allows sales of handguns to people who don’t appear in person at a dealer’s business only if the person swears that they are at least 21.
DOJ lawyers reviewed the law and Supreme Court rulings that outline the application of the Constitution’s Second Amendment, which states in part that “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.”…
