The Mexican Health Ministry said that a U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into a Cyclospora parasite outbreak that was traced to iceberg lettuce from Mexico did not conclusively determine how the contamination occurred.
Mexico’s food-safety regulator, Cofepris, said its laboratory tested raw materials, finished products and water from the facility investigated in the outbreak and found no Cyclospora. Cofepris’s Oct. 3 statement did not mention Taylor Farms’ Mexican subsidiary, but the FDA’s Oct. 2 update did so several times.
Cofepris said environmental findings alone were not conclusive evidence that agricultural products were the source of contamination.
Mexico said it had cooperated throughout the investigation by providing traceability information, inspections, and samples, and would continue to cooperate with U.S. health authorities. …
