The Greek Language At Monash University On Business Plan

The Greek language continues to flourish in Australia, bringing together generations and cultures through a shared appreciation of history and heritage. At Monash University in Melbourne, a new initiative is giving Modern Greek a renewed presence on campus.

Launched in September 2026 through a partnership between the Monash Hellenic Students’ Society and the Greek Community of Melbourne, the Modern Greek for Adults program offers classes for learners ranging from complete beginners to advanced speakers. More than 80 students enrolled in the initial classes, demonstrating strong interest in learning the language.

Held at the university’s Clayton campus, the program develops speaking, reading and writing skills while encouraging meaningful connections with Greek culture. Its structured approach also prepares students for potential certification of their language proficiency.

Beyond grammar and vocabulary, learning Modern Greek opens a window into Greece’s literature, traditions and contemporary identity. This initiative celebrates the enduring vitality of Greek and strengthens cultural connections across Australia.
