A Chinese woman stopped at Detroit Metropolitan Airport has been charged after admitting to FBI agents that she came to the United States to gather intelligence for Chinese intelligence officers based in Shanghai.
Jin Di, also known as Sophie Jin, a Chinese citizen residing in Tianjin, a Chinese city bordering Beijing, was charged with acting as an agent of a foreign government without notifying the U.S. Attorney General, according to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on Sept. 11.
According to an affidavit filed with the complaint by an FBI agent, Jin arrived at the airport on a Delta Airline flight from Shanghai on Sept. 8, saying she was visiting an 81-year-old friend in Washington. …
