During U.S. President Donald Trump’s two-day trip to China, Beijing enacted one of its most extensive security operations, closing roads, deploying thousands of police and SWAT officers, and locking down large sections of the capital. More than 2,000 security personnel were mobilized for the visit.
The scale of Beijing’s security operations was significantly greater than for visits from other world leaders, or even in comparison to Trump’s first visit to China in 2017.
And while the extraordinary controls were in place, the scale of Trump’s motorcade and the spectacle surrounding his arrival drew crowds of residents onto Beijing’s streets, where many gathered to film the convoy….
