Judge Blocks HUD From Restructuring Federal Grants Program

A federal judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked the Trump ‌administration from restructuring a grant program that provides funding for more than 100 nonprofit housing groups.
U.S. District Judge Myong Joun ⁠in Boston ruled the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) had failed to provide a reasoned explanation for its decision to carry out changes to the Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP), which was established by Congress in 1988.
Joun’s ruling came in a lawsuit by the ⁠National Fair Housing Alliance and the Massachusetts Fair Housing Center, which sued in July to block the ​changes.
The judge said ‌Congress had for decades recognized fair housing organizations needed federal funding to tackle discrimination and enforce the 1968 Fair Housing Act. …
